The Power of Thought

It has been said that if you realized the power of your thoughts, you would never think negatively again. I know this is easier said than done. Some times we need to slow down and think about what we are saying to ourselves. These are our thoughts. How often do you say mean, horrible things to yourself ? Probably more than you think.

These thoughts can be about your weight, your physical attractiveness, your intellect, your social interactions, whatever you put your attention on. All of us slip into these patterns, that is why it is so important to continually work on this.

When we are depressed we have cognitive distortions, these are thoughts that just aren’t based in fact. One in particular is called the binocular trick. This is when you magnify other people’s positive traits and minimize your own positive traits. This is a very SLIPPERY SLOPE!! Don’t go there. As soon as you become aware of those thoughts replace them with another thought. I realize you can’t lie to yourself, if you believe you are ugly you can’t say you are beautiful, however, you can come up with a neutral thought. Maybe something like, “I have nice eyes.”

Start there and progress to positive thoughts.

REMEMBER: CHANGE YOUR THINKING, CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
